04-22-2026 - 6:15 AM - It’s Wednesday, and a reminder that the 7290 Traffic Net is on the air Mon-Sat 10:00 AM - 12:00 Noon and Mon - Fri 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM on 7.290 MHz. From Google AI Overview: The 7290 Traffic Net is an independent public service amateur radio net operating near 7.290 MHz, dedicated to handling formal written traffic and emergency, health, and welfare messages, primarily in the South Central U.S. since 1953. It acts as a training platform for operators and provides emergency communication support when other systems fail. An interesting spot in downtown Wichita Falls is the Rack House at 814 Indiana Ave. From their website: “Rack House brings pool, cornhole, arcade games, food, drinks, and big-screen sports together in the heart of downtown.” This reminds me of the possibility of needing more downtown parking spaces. Maybe a parking lot or two could be expanded to multiple floors. Just an idea. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.

--- 6:20 AM - According to Water Data for Texas, Wichita Falls reservoirs are: Arrowhead: 83.6% Kemp: 96.0% Kickapoo: 87.5%. Monitored Water Supply Reservoirs are 89.6% full. The City of Wichita Falls uses combined levels of Arrowhead and Kickapoo (85.55%) to determine drought stage.

6:50 AM - According to a story on Texoma’s Home Page (KFDX), the former Grand Hotel, described by City officials as “The long derelict structure at 401 Broad Street”, will be demolished. We had two nice hotels, across the highway from each other, that became abandoned for one reason or another. One has already been demolished, and now that fate awaits the former Grand Hotel. Wichita Falls can be very interesting at times. We’re big enough to attract some nice things, but not big enough to keep them for any meaningful length of time.

--- 1:50 PM - Quoting the Telegraph (UK) "Mobile network operators have warned they could be forced to ration phone signal access to combat soaring energy prices triggered by the war in Iran." There's no better time to start assembling a Hobby Radio communications back-up station.

--- 3:00 PM - I see that Bradford's Catfish Haus, 1616 Pearlie Drive, 940-424-9414, is still going strong. They've added some items to their menu. I haven't dined there in well over a year, so it's past time for a return visit. Just Google them, and you'll find their Facebook page.

--- 6:10 PM - The "Local Group" (that's what I call them) are on the air on CB Radio Channel 23. They are on most evenings starting between 5:30 PM and 6:00 PM. Their chats are like a box of chocolate: you never know what you're going to get. Tune in or join in!

--- 8:30 PM - Someone is clowning around on the FRS/GMRS frequency of 462.5625 MHz. The person, who sounds like an adult, is making funny noises. The "roger beeps" spell Family Radio Service (FRS) rather than the General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS).

--- 8:45 PM - Stand outside your nearest shopping mall* and ask people leaving if they have heard of your Amateur (ham) Radio club. When you're finished, I'm guessing that you might want to create a position called Director of Marketing. *Unless it's as dead as the Wichita Falls mall!
