06-13-2026 - 5:30 AM - Good Morning! It’s Saturday, and local Amateur (ham) Radio Operators meet informally at 8:00 AM for breakfast at the Pioneer #3 restaurant at Old Iowa Park Road and Sheppard Access Road. Look for vehicles with extra antennas and/or handheld radios on tables. There’s a 20% chance of rain today. I’m calling it a 0% chance. I have updated the International Space Station Passes Over Wichita Falls page. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.

Burned Toast Wichita Falls

--- 7:00 AM - According to a story on Texoma's Home Page, a mother and her two daughters enjoyed a minor shoplifting spree at the local Target store. The total amount stolen was $205.83. The three got some family time at the county jail. Great parenting.

--- 7:30 AM - Headlines - Wichita Co. deputies find trunk ‘completely full’ of marijuana during traffic stop, Mother, daughters accused of theft from WF Target, Officer, deputies won’t be charged in Jack County officer-involved shooting, Man pulls large knife in Wichita Falls Taco Bell.

MORE!

--- 3:15 PM - I'm looking for an Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air contact, but the 20-meter band is, once again, taking a nap. I will check back later

--- 3:30 PM - I just finished watching Close Encounters of the Third Kind on Peacock. I first saw the movie when it first came out, in 1977, at the Coronet Theater on Geary Boulevard in San Francisco. This is the same theater where I saw Star Wars a few months earlier. By the way, Close Encounters still holds up as a masterpiece after 49 years.

--- 4:00 PM - I was "today years old" when I learned that Chuck Connors (The Rifleman) was a Boston Celtcs and Brooklyn Dodgers player.

--- 6:25 PM - A couple of Local Group guys are chatting on CB Radio Channel 23. The group might have shrunk just a little bit over the years, or it could be my imagination. I think they'll be around for years to come. Tune in or join in.

--- 7:30 PM - I heard my first “88” on Amateur (ham) Radio today. “73” (not 73s) is often heard and means “Best Regards.” Heard less often is “88”, which stands for “Love & Kisses”. Today I heard “88” in Morse code while looking for Parks on the Air stations to contact. It was a female operator.

--- 8:00 PM - I'm not a basketball fan, but I'm watching Game 5 of the NBA finals. I'd like to see the Knicks win. After all, it's been 53 years! Also, there's not much else on TV.

--- 8:45 PM - Have you noticed that 99% of "the trouble with Ham Radio" involves a microphone? I don't know about you, but I've never heard someone talking crap using Morse code. For one thing, it takes too much time, and it wouldn't have the same impact as a voice. How do you yell using Morse code? Also, agitators probably don't know a dot from a dash to begin with.

--- 9:00 PM - In the 1977 Wichita Falls City Directory, under listing for Oil Producers, Marketers, Drillers, Refiners, Shippers, etc., there are 290 listings.
